Montecito Union 6th graders meet
Olympian Sammy Hill!
Olympian Sammy Hill!
On a bright Tuesday morning in October, Sixth grade students had the opportunity to meet Sammy Hill, Olympic Gold Medalist from this year's Olympic games in Rio. Sammy and her water polo team exemplified numerous Habits of Mind as they reached their final goal of winning the gold medal game.
During her visit, Sammy shared her journey to becoming an Olympian, explaining all the hard work and dedication it takes to achieve a spot on a Olympic team. Sammy spoke while showing students a Powerpoint presentation which included photos from Rio, and a video clip of her team's final game against Italy.
Sammy gave each student a chance to wear her medal, explaining, "This medal represents our country, and should be shared with everyone." Again, exemplifying her generosity of spirit, Sammy remained after her presentation to sign an autograph for every Sixth grader!
We are so thankful for the opportunity to meet Sammy and hear her Olympic story. She has inspired many of our students to strive for accuracy, remain persistent, and take those responsible risks necessary to achieving their goals.
